NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After putting in serious work on the pitch over the last two weeks, the Belmont women's soccer will open a weekend of exhibition play beginning on Friday night. The Bruins will face off against in-state rival Chattanooga first before taking on former conference rival Lipscomb on Sunday evening.
Belmont returns five starters from one year ago including senior Emily Proud (Knoxville, Tenn.) and sophomore Belicia Mendiola (McKinney, Texas), who both earned postseason OVC honors. Mendiola was the team's leading scorer last season, tallying eight goals.
Chattanooga is looking to rebound from a tough campaign one year ago where it went 1-17-1. Under the guise of a new coach for the 2015 season, the Mocs are hoping for a strong start in exhibition play. Belmont owns a 5-0 series advantage over UTC and the programs have not faced off since the 2007 season.
The Bruins hold a commanding 9-3 all-time series lead over Lipscomb heading into Sunday's game. Last year marked only the third time LU pulled out a win over Belmont, winning 2-0 on its home field. The Lady Bisons went 10-7-2 overall one year ago and finished second in the Atlantic Sun with a 4-2-1 mark.
Last season, the Bruins went 7-7-4 overall and finished with a 4-4-2 record in the OVC, just missing an opportunity to advance to the conference tournament.
Friday's contest at Rose Park is set to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. Live stats will be available. Sunday's match at Lipscomb is set for 5 p.m. at the LU Soccer Complex. Fans may also access an in-game Twitter feed (@BelmontWSoccer) during both matches.
