A Very Rocky Top

A Very Rocky Top

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. --  The Belmont women's soccer team (1-4-1) battled but was unable to come away with a win at first-time opponent Tennessee (5-0-3).  The Vols pushed past the Bruins, 8-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The first stanza was near even in output despite the two goals netted by Tennessee midway through.  As the teams headed into the halftime break, they were only separated by two shots.  Junior Stephanie Bukovec (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) came away with four crucial stops in the half.

UT exploded for six more goals in the second half.

Eight individual Bruins fired shots at the Vol goal during the matchup.  Freshman Allie Svoboda (Lisle, Ill.) and junior Rachael Ballish (Cincinnati, Ohio) each recorded a shot on goal.

Between the posts, Bukovec logged 67 minutes and collected four saves while senior Lindsey Espe (LaCanada, Calif.) grabbed one in the final 22 minutes of regulation in relief.

"We did not get the result we wanted but games like this make us stronger," said Head Coach Heather Henson.

The eight goal deficit was the most for Belmont since the 2004 campaign.

Belmont returns to action on Friday, September 18 at Georgia State.  Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. CT.  Live stats will be available.
