NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont's season may have ended on Saturday, but the post season honors have just begun for senior Ashley Byers. Byers was named to the Atlantic Sun Second team by College Sports Madness on Monday.
The website, www.collegesportsmadness.com, selected Byers as a second-team infielder. The senior from Westerville, Ohio, was the Bruins' primary offensive threat this season, hitting nine home runs and leading the team with a .345 batting average. Byers also recorded a team high 41 hits and 27 RBIs, as well as team highs in slugging percentage (.605) and on base percentage (.473). In the A-Sun this season, she ranks seventh in slugging percentage, third in on base percentage, sixth in home runs and fourth in walks. She is Belmont's all-time career leader in home runs with 28, and holds first (10), second (9) and third place (9) on the single season home runs lists.
Byers, who graduated last Saturday, was an exercise science major at Belmont with a minor in nutrition. She has been an Academic All-Conference selection and has received A-Sun Player of the Week and Belmont Student-Athlete of the Month honors during her career, but this is her first all-conference selection.
