NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Softball gears up for the annual Battle of the Boulevard game on Tuesday. The Bruins (22-19) make the short drive down the street to take on long-time rival Lipscomb (29-13).
Lipscomb looks to snap its recent two-game skid when it welcomes BU to the annual meeting between the programs. The Bisons stand at 29-13 overall heading into the midweek game. Sarah Higgins leads the team at the plate, batting .343 with 47 hits, 13 doubles, five home runs, and 22 RBI.
Mandy Jordan has done the lion's share of the work inside the circle, tossing 124.0 innings with 128 strikeouts, a 1.47 ERA with a 15-5 record.
Lipscomb leads the all-time series, 31-9. The Bisons won last year's duel at Rose Park, 5-0.
Belmont has a trio of batters hitting over .300, led by senior Lexi Rouse (Macon, Ga.), batting .333 with eight homeruns, 37 hits, nine doubles, a triple and 26 RBI. Classmate Jess Andree (Darien, Ill.) follows, sporting a .325 batting average with 41 hits, five doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 26 RBI. Junior Taylor Hargrove (Greenbrier, Tenn.) rounds out the group, batting .300 with 18 hits and a pair of RBI.
Inside the circle, sophomore Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) remains the Bruins' ace, tossing 153.1 innings, recording a whopping 185 strikeouts to the tune of a 1.69 ERA and a 12-9 record with eight shutouts. R Freshman Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) has thrown 75.1 innings to the tune of a 3.07 ERA, a 4-8 record and 59 strikeouts. Rouse sports a 6-2 record and a 3.29 ERA after tossing 49.0 innings with 18 strikeouts.
Tuesday's first pitch at Lipscomb is slated for 5 p.m. while Saturday's games are set for Noon start. Live stats will be available.
