NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A promising start fell short on Tuesday night with Belmont Softball's shortest road trip of the season. The Bruins (22-20) fell in the annual Battle of the Boulevard game at Lipscomb (30-13), 13-2.
Sophomore Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) smashed her first collegiate homerun to get the Bruins on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning to knot the score early after LU posted runs in the bottom of the first stanza. The stalemate was short lived as the Lady Bisons exploded in the bottom of the second frame, posting a whopping six runs. Even with a pitching change for the Bruins, things continued to fall in Lipscomb's favor.
The Lady Bisons added a single run in the bottom of the third inning to go up, 9-2. Lipscomb surged a final time in the latter half of the fourth inning, adding four more runs, putting the game out of reach for BU, who went on to fall by the score of 13-2 in five innings.
Lee and freshman Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) split time inside the circle, combining for four strikeouts.
Belmont returns to action on Saturday, April 28 on the road at in-state rival UT Martin. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
