On the Road Again

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Softball hits the road for it's next to last road trip of the regular season this weekend.  The Bruins (22-20, 3-11 OVC) travel for games at Southeast Missouri State (29-18, 11-7 OVC) on Sunday afternoon.  The originally scheduled Saturday doubleheader at UT Martin has been moved to May 6.

Southeast Missouri State has won five of its last seven outings to stand at 29-18 overall and 11-7 in the OVC.  The Redhawks have four players batting over .300 led by Rachel Anderson, coming in at .359 with eight doubles, six triples, one homerun and 25 RBI.  

Inside the circle, Madeline Krumrey has done the lion's share of work, tossing 133.1 innings to the tune of a 3.68 ERA with 97 strikeouts and a 12-7 record.  Haley Thogmartin is right behind her with 93.2 innings under her belt with a 10-6 record, a 2.39 ERA and 65 strikeouts recorded.

The all-time series is knotted 12-12.  The teams split the doubleheader in Nashville one year ago.

Belmont is led at the plate by senior Lexi Rouse (Macon, Ga.), batting .330 with eight homeruns, 37 hits, nine doubles, a triple and 26 RBI.  Classmate Jess Andree (Darien, Ill.) follows, sporting a .326 batting average with 42 hits, six doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 26 RBI. 

Inside the circle, sophomore Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) remains the Bruins' ace, tossing 154.2 innings, recording a whopping 188 strikeouts to the tune of a 1.95 ERA and a 12-10 record with eight shutouts.  Freshman Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) has thrown 78.0 innings to the tune of a 3.59 ERA, a 4-8 record and 60 strikeouts.  Rouse sports a 6-2 record and a 3.29 ERA after tossing 49.0 innings with 18 strikeouts. 

Several players have distinguished themselves near the tops of national statistical categories, including Lee, who is No. 12 in shutouts and 23rd in strikeouts.  Juniors Hayley Baker (Rockwall, Texas) and Chelsea Thomas (Hot Springs, Ark.) are both ranked 20th in sacrifice flies while sophomore Bailey Sims (Flowery Branch, Ga.) is ranked the 144th hardest player to strikeout in all of NCAA Division I.
