NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont University Softball head coach Brian Levin has announced the recent addition of Brittany Kennett (Melbourne, Australia) and Autumn McDanel (Moravia, Iowa) to the roster, joining the program for the 2018-19 academic year. The highly experienced pair will add depth inside the circle for the Bruins for the next two seasons.
Melbourne, Australia native Kennett will add depth to the already dynamic pitching corps when she arrives in the fall. During her final season at Odessa College in Texas, she finished with an 8-6 record with a 3.62 ERA and recorded 94 strikeouts over 85 innings tossed. Kennett helped the Wranglers finish 27-8 overall
She completed her high school career at Aquinas High in Australia and played for the travel team the Lilydale Ejays.
"Brittany is an explosive power pitcher that can hit the mid to upper 60's," Levin noted. "She is dedicated to the sport and works tirelessly at her skills. She has played at a very high level in her native Australia and has had success at a very competitive JUCO in Texas. We are excited to see how all of her experience and hard work play out for the Belmont Softball program."
Also joining Kennett inside the circle will be the highly decorated McDanel. The Moravia, Iowa native was a five-year starter at Moravia Community High, earning numerous awards as a multi-sport athlete, including earning First Team All-Conference three times, First Team All-District four times, First and Second Team All-State and Honorable Mention All-State. Each year inside the circle, she led the state in strikeouts per inning pitched with 1.875 and finished second in state in total strikeouts with a total of 345 and strikeouts per game at 13.2. The Under Armor Preseason All-American selection also set many school records including single game strikeouts (19), single season strikeouts (345), single season strikeouts per game (13.2), career strikeouts (872) and single season slugging percentage (1.085).
McDanel also played for the nationally ranked Iowa Renegades club, earning a first place and fifth place finish at the World Series. She was tabbed USSSA World Series MVP five consecutive years.
She began her collegiate career at Des Moines Area Community College, posting a 3-1 record inside the circle with a 1.38 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 25.1 innings. She also saw time at the plate, owning a .356 batting average and collected nine RBI.
"Autumn is a very talented athlete that had incredible success at the high school and travel ball levels," Levin said. "She is a strike out pitcher that can be a difference maker. She is also an offensive threat with the bat. She will bring needed athleticism to the team and we are looking forward to her impact."
Kennett and McDanel join fellow newcomers Tyffany Cargile (Old Hickory, Tenn.), Molly Dietz (Lindenhurst, Ill.), Audrey Lyle (Westlake, Ohio), Taylor Marciniak (Chesapeake, Va.), and Jessica Parente (Verona, Wisc.) who will all don the Bruin Red and Blue beginning in the fall of 2018.
