NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For a second consecutive year, at least one Belmont Softball player has garnered a Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First Team nod, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) this week. Junior Hayley Baker (Rockwall, Texas) is one of only four student athletes from the Ohio Valley Conference to receive the honor.
The outfielder finished her junior campaign tied 38th nationally in sacrifice flies and led the team in the category. Baker started and played in all but four contests all season, batting .232 with five doubles, a triple, and 13 RBI.
One year ago, the native of Rockwall, Texas was named CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First Team and earned Easton / NFCA Division I Scholar-Athlete distinction at the end of the 2015-16 season. A 2016 OVC All-Newcomer Team selection, Baker has earned OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction each season.
The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada and separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.
As a First-team Academic All-District® honoree, Baker advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.
Baker joins Haley Mitchell of Eastern Illinois, and Leah Kesel and Amber Van Duyse of Murray State as this year's 2018 NCAA Division I Academic All-District Softball Team.
