On a High Note

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University Softball concluded its Fall Ball season on a high note with a pair of wins on Saturday. The Bruins held off visiting Motlow State, 8-7, in the opener before picking up an 8-3 win in the nightcap to remain undefeated in contests at their home field, E.S. Rose Park.

BU doubled the hit production of its visitor, 14-7, en route to the slim 8-7 win. At the plate, the Bruins saw a variety of players post hits including junior Bailey Sims (Flowery Branch), senior Taylor Hargrove (Greenbrier, Tenn.), junior Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.), and sophomore Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Ten.) each posted three hits. Sophomore Georgia McKee (Frisco, Texas) smashed a homerun while freshman Jessica Parente (Verona, Wisc.) and Lee both notched doubles.

Veltri pulled double duty and tossed the first three innings of play, recording four strikeouts and only relinquishing one hit and one run. Sophomore newcomer Autumn McDanel (Moravia, Iowa) saw time inside the circle in the fourth and fifth innings, also only surrendering a single hit and a single run. Transfer Brittany Kennett (Melbourne, Australia) rounded out the pitching corps appearance inside the circle, pitching the last two innings and finishing with a trio of strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the Bruins once again outpaced their opponents in hits, 10-6, as they recorded an 8-3 win in five innings of play. McDanel once again opened up for BU inside the circle, throwing the first three innings. Last season's workhorse, Lee pitched the final two innings, allowing no runs to cross the plate and tallying a pair of strikeouts.

At the plate, Hargrove went 2-for-3 while freshman Audrey Lyle (Westlake, Ohio) went 2-for-3 with a homerun. McDanel notched a double in the nightcap effort.
