NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Wednesday afternoon, Belmont Softball will play its final tune up doubleheader before entering Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend. The Bruins (15-8) will host Maine (3-12) at E.S. Rose Park for a pair of midweek games.
Maine snapped a six-game skid with an extra innings win on the road at Murray State over the weekend. The Black Bears stand at 3-12 on the season and will travel to another OVC school, Tennessee State, on Tuesday before the pair of games at Belmont on Wednesday. UM is led at the plate by Laurine German, who is batting .350 with 14 hits, two doubles, two triples, two homeruns and four RBI. Inside the circle, four pitchers are seeing work led by Kyleigh O'Donnell, who has thrown 27.2 innings, recorded 19 strikeouts to the tune of a 3.80 ERA and a 0-1 record after eight appearances. Emily Reid has tossed 25.2 innings with 20 strikeouts and has a 1-4 record and a 6.00 ERA while Lilly Volk has an ERA of 5.62 with three strikeouts over 23.2 innings of work for a 2-4 record.
BU stands at 15-8 overall going 3-1 at its own Belmont Invitational over the weekend. Belmont has six players batting over .300. The team is led at the plate by sophomore Cheyenne Cavanaugh (Spring, Texas), who is batting .386 with 17 hits, three doubles and three RBI. Senior Baylee Cook (Lewisburg, Tenn.) is batting .61 with 26 hits, four doubles, one homerun and 15 RBI while sophomore Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) is batting .354 with 23 hits, four doubles, a team-high five homeruns and 23 RBI.
Inside the circle, junior Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) continues to lead the Bruin pitching corps. She has an ERA of 1.44 with 71 strikeouts over 68 innings of work for an 8-2 record with a save and three shutouts. Veltri has posted a 2.06 ERA with 67 strikeouts over 68 innings for a 7-4 record and a team-leading 13 appearances.
