NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The road to the Ohio Valley Conference tournament begins this weekend for Belmont Softball. The Bruins (17-8) welcome UT Martin (18-10) and Southeast Missouri State (20-7) for a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at E.S. Rose Park.
The Skyhawks come to Nashville looking to extend their eight-game win streak, now standing at 18-10 overall. UTM is led at the plate by Paige Clark, who is batting .405 with 32 hits, one double, a pair of triples, one homerun and 13 RBI. Inside the circle, UT Martin has four pitchers splitting the load almost evenly. Erin Gallagher sports the corps' best ERA at 1.95 with a team-high 38 strikeouts over 46.2 innings with a 4-1 record. Lexi Ray has seen the most work with 51.1 innings thrown to the tune of a 6-4 record with 110 starts and a 3.27 ERA.
The Redhawks stand at 22-7 with a 10-game win streak coming into the first weekend of league play. Rachel Anderson leads SEMO at the plate, batting .478 with 43 hits, five doubles, seven triples, six homeruns and 31 RBI. Inside the circle, Haley Thogmartin has tossed 72.1 innings to lead the Redhawk pitching corps. She has a 2.13 ERA with 68 strikeouts and a 9-3 record with 18 appearances.
BU stands at 17-8 overall after picking up a pair of convincing wins over Maine earlier this week. Belmont has eight players batting over .300. The team is led at the plate by senior Baylee Cook (Lewisburg, Tenn.), who is batting .380 with 30 hits, five doubles, a pair of homeruns and 19 RBI while sophomore Cheyenne Cavanaugh (Spring, Texas) is batting .373 with 19 hits, three doubles and five RBI. Sophomore Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) boasts at .611 slugging percentage with 25 hits, four doubles, five homeruns and 25 RBI to the tune of a .347 batting average.
Inside the circle, junior Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) continues to lead the Bruin pitching corps. She has an ERA of 1.31 with 77 strikeouts over 75 innings of work for a 9-2 record with one save and three shutouts. Veltri has posted a 2.06 ERA with 67 strikeouts over 68 innings for a 7-4 record and a team-leading 13 appearances.
