Pitcher of the Week Nod

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An outstanding turn inside the circle has earned Belmont University Softball's Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.) the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week nod, as announced by the league on Monday.

This is the second time this season the sophomore has garnered league honor. She was tabbed Player of the Week on February 18.

The Clarksville, Tenn., native did not allow a single run to cross the plate in a pair of turns in the circle last week, extending her shutout streak to three consecutive appearances.  In game one against UT Martin, Veltri went the distance in the 7-0 win, fanning 11 batters, her second-best outing this season.

She held the reins in the nightcap versus Southeast Missouri State, striking out four straight batters to open the contest. She finished with eight Ks in her third shutout in as many outings.

Veltri, who leads the OVC in pitching conference games, stands 69th in strikeouts and 84th in hits allowed per seven innings among all NCAA Division I players.

Veltri and the rest of the Belmont Softball team returns to action on Friday with a pair of games on the road at Austin Peay.
