NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the first time this season, Belmont Softball hits the road for Ohio Valley Conference play. The Bruins (19-10, 2-2 OVC) travel to in-state rival Austin Peay (16-14, 1-1 OVC) and Murray State (12-16, 2-0 OVC) for a pair of weekend doubleheaders.
The Govs have won four of their last seven outings to now stand at 16-14 overall and 1-1 in OVC play. Danielle Liermann leads the team at the plate, batting .343 with 34 hits, five doubles, 11 homeruns and 23 RBI. Right behind her is Kelsey Gross, batting .337 with 28 hits, four doubles, one triple, a pair of homeruns and 14 RBI. Inside the circle, Morgan Rackel is doing the lion's share of the work, tossing 107.2 innings. She has an ERA or 2.34 after fanning 123 batters with five shutouts over 14 complete games to the tune of a 12-5 record.
Murray State puts its unblemished OVC record on the line this weekend, after starting 2-0. The Racers are 12-16 overall. Brenna Finck leads the team at the plate, batting .340 with 32 hits, four doubles, one homerun and eight RBI while Lillie Goetz follows, batting .333 with 26 hits, eight doubles, three homeruns and 23 RBI. Hannah James leads the pitching corps in innings pitched with a total of 89.1. She has also recorded a team-high seven wins, 67 strikeouts and a 3.06 ERA.
BU stands at 19-10 overall heading into its first OVC road trip of the season. The Bruins stand at 19-10 overall. Belmont has eight players batting over .300 and is led at the plate by senior Baylee Cook (Lewisburg, Tenn.). She is batting .355 with 33 hits, five doubles, a trio of homeruns, and 20 RBI. Sophomore Cheyenne Cavanaugh (Spring, Texas) is batting .348 with 23 hits, three doubles, a triple and five RBI.
Inside the circle, the Bruin pitching corps is led by junior Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) and sophomore Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.). Lee has an ERA of 1.59 with 89 strikeouts over 88 innings of work for a 9-4 record with a save and three shutouts. Veltri is right behind her with a 1.71 ERA with 86 strikeouts over 82 innings for a 9-4 record and a team-leading 14 starts.
Friday's doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. in Clarksville while Sunday's doubleheader at MSU has a first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats will be available for both sets of games. The contests at Murray State on Sunday can be seen live on ESPN+.
