Tuesday Clash with the Mocs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont Softball continues its second longest homestand of the season with a midweek tilt versus in-state rival Chattanooga. The Bruins (26-17, 8-8 OVC) welcome the Mocs (25-12) for a single game on Tuesday at E.S. Rose Park.

UTC has won two of their last seven outings to stand at 25-12 overall. The Mocs are led at the plate by Aly Walker who is batting .367 with 40 hits, seven doubles, three homeruns and 20 RBI. Right behind her is Emma Sturdivant, who is batting .350 with 41 hits, seven doubles, one triple and 30 RBI. Inside the circle, Celie Hudson has 11 complete games under her belt with 104.0 innings thrown. She has an ERA of 2.62 with 99 strikeouts and an 8-8 record. Mariah Ramirez has tossed 88.1 innings with 65 strikeouts to the tune of a 2.30 ERA and an 11-1 record.

BU stands at 26-17 overall and 8-8 in OVC games after splitting a pair of OVC doubleheaders over the weekend. Belmont has eight players batting over .300, led by senior Baylee Cook (Lewisburg, Tenn.), the newly selected Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, who is batting .379 with 53 hits, seven doubles, a pair of triples, three homeruns and 31 RBI. Classmate Taylor Hargrove (Greenbrier, Tenn.) follows, batting .367 with 11 hits with senior Hayley Baker (Rockwall, Texas) rounding out the team's hottest bats, batting .359 with 47 hits, 13 doubles, six homeruns and 40 RBI.

Inside the circle, the Bruin pitching corps is led by junior Brooklin Lee (Burns, Tenn.) and sophomore Alicia Veltri (Clarksville, Tenn.). Lee sports a 2.29 ERA after fanning 116 batters with four shutouts and a save for an 11-7 record. Veltri has 14 complete games under her belt with 120 strikeouts recorded over 122.1 innings tossed for a 12-7 mark with a 2.35 ERA.

Tuesday's game against Chattanooga begins at 5 p.m. at Rose Park. Live stats will be available and the contest can be heard live on audiocast via the Bruins Sports Network. Belmont students in attendance will have an opportunity to enter a drawing for four pairs of tickets to WHO'S BAD "The Ultimate Michael Jackson Experience" at Municipal Auditorium later this month.
