NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team wrapped up its 2011 fall season this past weekend at the June Stewart Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt in Nashville.
Belmont's play in singles was highlighted by senior Abbey Hogan who posted a 2-1 record in her flight. In the quarterfinals, she lost to Flavia Nagayama of MTSU 6-1, 6-0, but in the consolation bracket, she beat a pair of Lipscomb players. Hogan defeated Deahna Welcher 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 and then beat Alyssa Bellini 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, the duo of Catherine Holliday and Abbey Hogan led the way with a 2-1 record in their flight. In the quarterfinals, they beat Christine Gerazzi and Jessica Parr of Miami (OH) 8-4, but they fell in the semifinals to Marietta Bigus and Lexi Brand of MTSU 9-7. The duo wrapped up their weekend with a consolation bracket victory over Devon Cavanaugh and Christine Boissevain of UNC-Asheville 8-6.
This tournament wraps up the 2011 fall season for the women's tennis team. They will begin their 2012 spring season on January 22 at Kentucky.
