MACON, Ga. -- The Belmont women's tennis team picked up a conference road win as they beat Mercer 5-2 in a match played Friday morning in Macon, Georgia.
Belmont won the first point of the match as they won two of the three doubles matches. At number two, Catherine Holliday and Fabiana Mersan beat Melanie Scumlias and Amanda Bertani 8-4, while at number three Natalai Nunes and Carolyn Caire swept Sarah Hanna and Katherine Cooper 8-0.
In singles, the Bruins lost at the top two positions, but swept the final four matches to clinch the 5-2 road win over the the Bears. Belmont's winners included: at number three, Catherine Holliday beating Melanie Schmilas 6-1, 6-3; at number four, Carolyn Caire defeating Amanda Bertani 6-3, 6-1; at number five, Laura Stack beating Sarah Hanna 6-4, 6-2; and at number six, Natalia Nunes defeating Katherine Cooper 6-2, 6-1.
Belmont (5-6, 2-0) will play at Kennesaw State in their next match. The match is scheduled for 12:00pm tomorrow.
