NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis program has signed Sandra Kancheva to a National Letter of Intent for the 2012-2013 school year.
Kancheva is a native of Sofia, Bulgaria and is currently ranked in the top-40 in her age group in her native country. During her junior career, she won three tournament titles and finished second four times. In addition, her CSKA Tennis Club finished in the top-three at the National Team Championship four times, including a first place finish in 2007.
"I am excited that Sandra will be joining our program next fall," said Mark Srouji, Belmont's head coach. "She has had a successful career playing junior tennis in Europe and I think she will make an immediate impact."
Kancheva is the first Eastern European to compete for the Bruins and first European to play for the program since Linda Johansson in 2004-2008.
