CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team had a solid start to their fall season at the Austin Peay Fall Classic held this past weekend in Clarksville, Tennessee.
In singles, the Bruins were led by freshman Suzanna Stapler and junior Ann Lauren Fiepke. Stapler, in her first collegiate event, posted a 3-1 record. After falling to Jesse Grace of MTSU in her first match, the Alpharetta, Georgia native reeled off three straight victories. She beat Brittney Covington of Austin Peay in her second match on Friday and followed that with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jessica Silva of UT-Martin. Then on Saturday, she defeated Maria Montenegro of SE Missouri State 7-5, 6-3.
Junior Ann Lauren Fiepke finished the tournament with a 2-1 singles mark. On Friday, she fell to Sarah Sediri of MTSU 6-1, 6-0, but then turned around and beat Maria Sadusky of UT-Martin 6-1, 6-2. She wrapped up her play on Saturday with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Annisa Warasanti of SE Missouri State 7-6, 6-4.
The women's tennis team will be back in action on Saturday, October 4 as they compete in a three team tournament involving Austin Peay and North Alabama in Clarksville, Tennessee.
