NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team defeated UT Martin, 4-3, for their first conference win of the season. The Bruins are 1-1 in conference play.
The Skyhawks grabbed the doubles point defeating the Bruins in the first two positions. As Jumamukhambetova and Jemima Potter defeated Drew Hawkins and Peyton Lee 6-3 at the one, while Mizuki Sakurai and Daphne Pratt defeated Erin Allen and Lauren Carelli 6-1 at the second. The match at number three was unfinished since the point had been determined.
The Bruins took four of the six matches in singles to clinch the win. At No. 2 Lee defeated Potter 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, while at three, Allen defeated Pratt 6-3, 6-3; Terra Sheldon won at number five over Amelia Campbell when Campbell retired in the third set down 5-1. Sarah Brackin clinched the victory for BU as she defeated Sakurai 7-6, 5-7, 6-3 at No. 6.
The Bruins will conclude the weekend play against Southeast Missouri State on Saturday in Paducah, Ky. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
