NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team defeated SIUE, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at Centennial Sportsplex.
The Bruins took the doubles point after defeating the Cougars at positions one and two. Erin Allen and Peyton Lee defeated Lara Tupper and Ann-Christine Link 6-3 at No. 1, while Maria Plaksina and Terra Sheldon defeated Alina Munteanu and Raillane Kamdem 6-3 at No. 3.
In singles, the Bruins posted wins in the bottom four positions to earn their fourth consecutive win. Allen defeated Callaghan Adams 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3. Then, Plaksina defeated Kamdem 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. At number five, Sheldon won 6-3, 6-1 against Link, while at six, Sarah Brackin defeated Maria Thibault 6-3, 6-1.
With the victory, BU moves to 11-6, 4-1 in the OVC. Their current four match win streak is the longest since the program won five in a row at the end of the 2003-04 season.
The Bruins will continue OVC play against Tennessee State on April 13 at Centennial Sportsplex. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
