NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team defeated Tennessee State, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at Nashboro Village Tennis Center.
The Bruins took the doubles point after defeating the Tigers at the first and third positions. Erin Allen and Peyton Lee defeated Aarushi Kakkar and Morgan Cage 6-2 at No. 1, while Maria Plaksina and Terra Sheldon defeated Abhilasha Vishwanath and Mackenzie Beckham 6-1 at No. 3.
In singles, the Bruins clinched the win after grabbing wins the bottom five positions, earning their fifth consecutive win. Peyton Lee defeated Pragati Natraj 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2. Then at No. 3 Allen defeated Vishwanath 7-5, 6-3. Plaksina defeated Beckham at No. 4 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. At No. 5 Sheldon won 6-3, 6-1 against Claudia Sole, while Sarah Brackin defeated Ashia Jones 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.
This is the longest win streak for the Bruins since 2004. After this match, the Bruins stand with a 12-6 overall record as well as a 5-1 conference mark.
Up next, the Bruins conclude conference play with a home match against Jacksonville State on April 19 and a road match at Austin Peay on April 20.
