NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team announces the addition of Somer Henry for the 2019-20 school year.
Henry, a native of FRanklin, Tennessee, spent last season as a member of the women's tennis team at Indiana University. While as a Hoosier, she posted 15 singles victories, including five Big Ten wins.
Prior to her stint at IU, Henry had a highly successful prep career at Brentwood High School. While there, she won three straight Class AAA state singles titles and helped her Brentwood team win three state team championships. Somer has also earned five National USTA Sportsmanship Awards and earned the USTA Junior Leadership Award.
"Somer is a tremendous addition for our team," said Mauricio Antun, Belmont's Director of Tennis. "She is one of the best players in the state of Tennessee, and also brings a lot of experience by playing at a Power 5 conference. We are very excited that she decided to be a Bruin and I can't wait to see her playing for our program."
During the 2019 spring season, the women's tennis team had their best season in nearly a decade. They finished with an overall record of 12-9, including a 5-3 mark in conference play, and earned a berth to the OVC Championship for the first time since 2013.
