CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - - Belmont University women's track & field placed seventh at the 2019 OVC Outdoor Championships hosted by Southeast Missouri Saturday.
The Bruins recorded 47 team points on the final day of competition, headlined by senior Karly Hibbard (Edmonds, Wash.) defending her league title in the javelin.
Hibbard distanced the field by five full meters, posting 47.52m and coming within an eyelash of her own meet record. Sophomore Maja Gustafsson (Vasteras, Sweden) placed fourth (41.01m).
Moments later, Hibbard backed it up with more team points in the shot put, finishing seventh (12.89m).
Junior distance runner Kortney Schardt (Lindenhurst, Ill.) continued her outstanding campaign, earning silver in the 5000m (16:57.30) and fourth in the 1500m (4:39.86).
Sophomore Payton Barlow (White House, Tenn.) pocketed five points with a fourth place showing in the 400m final (56.65).
The strong surge continued as sophomore Caroline Pruitt (Allen, Texas) punctuated her meet with a sixth place finish in the 400m hurdles (1:05.69).
