NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University Volleyball returns to the friendly confines of the Curb Event Center for its midweek duel with crosstown rival Tennessee State. The Bruins (2-20, 2-8 OVC) will look to split this year's series with the Tigers (8-13, 6-4 OVC) on Tuesday evening.
TSU snapped a four-match skid with a win over the weekend to improve to 6-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference while the team stands 8-13 overall. The Tigers are led in kills by Julia Pierson and Rachel Henderson, who have tallied 270 and 248, respectively. Laken Te'o leads in assists with a total of 793 while Gina Rivera Ortiz leads in digs with a total of 400. Pierson and Henderson also lead the team in service aces, notching 18 and 16, respectively.
Belmont leads the all-time series, 21-10. TSU won the matchup earlier this season, 3-1, at Kean Hall.
BU will look to rebound from previous weekend when it returns to the Curb Event Center. Senior Maggie Mullins (Nashville, Tenn.) leads the Bruins in kills with a total of 159 followed by freshman Taylor Floyd (Louisville, Ky.), who has contributed 153. Freshman Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) leads in assists with a total of 393 while sophomore Akia Warrior (Ft. Worth, Texas) has recorded 252. Warrior leads in service aces with a total of 17 with senior Haley Sullivan (Lemont, Ill.) is close behind with a total of 14. Sullivan also leads in digs with a total of 187 followed by senior Tori Simmons (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), who has added 143.
