NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont University Volleyball will welcome a pair of new faces in the fall of 2019, as recently announced by head coach first year Head Coach Katelyn Harrison. Raegan Phillips and Lauren Walsh will both join the Bruins at the conclusions of their careers at their respective high schools.
"I am really excited to get Lauren and Raegan on campus next fall and begin working with them," Harrison said.
Raegan Phillips will bring an outstanding athletic and academic resume with her when she joins BU in the fall. The three-year varsity player served as captain during her senior campaign at Mountain Vista High in Highlands Ranch, Colo. En route to earning an All-Conference nod in her final season, Phillips was also awarded the "Golden Eagle/Abby Hoffman Award" as the team's Most Valuable Player.
She brings championship experience to the Bruins after helping to lead MVHS to the state playoffs three consecutive seasons as well as earning the Regional Champion title twice. Phillips, who was named the Player of the Match on eight occasions during her career, finished as a Top-5 player in the Continental Conference and a Top-10 player in the state of Colorado at the pin position with kills (190), kills/set (2.2), hitting % (.203), blocks (62), blocks/set (0.73), digs (190) and digs/set (2.2).
She played club for Colorado Juniors VBC, four-year qualifier in the Open Division at USAV Nationals, as the starting right side for four years on a team that competed in the Open Division. Academically a standout, Phillips was a three-time Academic All-State First Team selection and a member of National Honors Society.
Hailing from Torrance, Calif., the highly decorated Lauren Walsh will add depth to outside hitter corps when she joins the Bruins in the fall. In her final year at South High, she was named an All-Tournament player at JO's in Detroit, Mich. The four-year varsity starter was also named All-League Most Valuable Player as both a junior and a senior.
Walsh was selected as the SHS Female Fall Athlete of the Season in both 2017 and 2018 and was named to the Daily Breeze All-Area Girls Volleyball team for 2018. Earning accolades early in her career, she was honored as one of the Top 59 Varsity-Playing Freshmen in the country by Prepvolleyball.com before going on to be tabbed Second Team All-League as both a sophomore and a freshman. Walsh was also awarded the All- CIF Southern Section Team Award in 2018.
"They will add depth to our roster and push our team daily and be wonderful representatives of Belmont Athletics," Harrison said.
