NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's cross country team continued its strong start to the season with another convincing performance, this time at the Commodore Classic on Saturday. The Bruins went toe-to-toe with some of the best teams in the region and came away with an eighth place finish in the field of more than 20 programs.
BU blazed the familiar 5K course at Percy Warner Park facing off against nearly 250 competitors. Senior Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.) continued to pace the Bruins, taking 13th overall in a time of 17:26.0. Sophomore Jessica King (Fishers, Ind.) battled to take 32nd overall with a time of 17:48.5.
The team's total effort gave them an eighth place finish overall ahead of regionally ranked teams like Louisville and Georgia Tech as well as OVC foes Southeast Missouri State, Murray State and Tennessee Tech.
Belmont returns to action on Saturday, October 3 at the Louisville Classic.
