NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's cross country team returns to action after a week of rest and preparation. The Bruins head to the Crimson Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama, on Friday evening.
The race features a pair of nationally ranked programs in No. 28 Oklahoma State, who is also ranked third in the Midwest Region, and No. 30 Alabama, who is also ranked second in the South Region. Seven of the top-15 teams in the USTFCCCA South Region, including Lipscomb (3rd), Florida State (5th), Mississippi (6th), Auburn (7th), and Southern Miss (13th) are also racing this weekend. Belmont is ranked 11th in the South Region heading into this weekend's race.
Other regionally ranked programs competing include LSU (12th, South Central) and Texas A&M (5th, South Central). Joining this group are teams from Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Houston Baptist, Louisiana Tech, Loyola-New Orleans, Memphis, Meridian CC, Montevallo, North Florida, Sam Houston State, Samford, Shorter, South Alabama, Southern Illinois, Texas-Arlington, Texas-Rio Grande Valley, Troy, UAB, UL-Monroe and West Georgia. Tennessee Tech is the lone OVC foe competing.
Leading the way for the Bruins at the Greater Louisville Classic was senior Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.). She cracked the race's top-10 in a field of 260 competitors with a new PR time of 17:12.72. Sophomore Jessica King (Fishers, Ind.) broke into the top-75, notching a 61st place finish with a new PR time of 17:48.07.
The women's 5K race is set to begin at 5 p.m. at the Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa. Live stats will be available.
