TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Headlined by a dominating performance by senior Hannah Wittman (Lindenhurst, Ill.), the Belmont women's cross country team had a strong day at the 2015 NCAA South Regional. The Bruins finished 18th overall and placed four runners in the top 130.
From the starting gun, Wittman battled to stay in the top pack and as the 6K waned on, she successfully fended off several surges from other competitors. In the final stretch, Wittman had literally had one runner nipping at her heels that could have ended her dreams of competing at NCAAs. She edged out Brenda Kigen of Auburn by less than one-tenth of a second to advance to the national championship for the first time in her already decorated career.
Wittman returns to action on November 21 at the NCAA Regionals, hosted by Louisville.
